Hey guys, I just got a new Nitro and I am interested in breaking it in in a couple of events this spring. Any recommendations? I am scheduled to fish a small club tournament in March. I know there is an Anglers Choice event in March as well but I have never done one of those. Any others out there that I might try? Are there any websites that do a good job of capturing upcoming events? Thanks.

Cool, thanks. I am registered for the Oakley event. Should be a good time. Has anyone fished the anglers choice events?

So the Leesville Lake Tournament Trail ones are open to anyone, grasscutter? Thanks for the info. I never could find much info about those. Including entry fee.
The Angler's Choice are well run, but very competitive. There are often 200+ boats at the SML events, but they do pay 1 place for every 7 boats.
Oakley Big Bass is definitely a very fun event. Look forward to it every year. Lots of money handed out too.

Thanks guys! Sounds like March is going to be a busy month... now only if the weather would warm up!

Here are two pretty popular trails that aren't on that schedule: Fisher's of Men ( www.fomntt.com/team/division.php?id=108) - Fish SML a few times as well as Leesville, Philpott, and Claytor USA Bassin ( usabassin.com/modules.php?name=Divisions&divisionID=82) - All on SML. Run by Conrad Brothers Marine. Only downside is that they only pay 3 places no matter how many boat show up. Affordable though, $60 entry fee. I'd also recommend the Reel Drag opens listed on the schedule I originally posted. They are small, laid back, well run, and affordable. Only downside to those is the location. But they do provide breakfast!

Some of us striper guys might just have to take some of that Oakley bass $$$ Heck, with all the sparkly boats running around those days we won't be able to do much planer board pulling anyway...

Yes they are open to the public....I can't remember the entry fee....don't hold me to it but I think it's 60 a boat and I'm not sure if lunker is included or extra.....usually 15 to 20 boats....

One thing if you are considering the anglers choice tournaments, they are very competitive and a lot of times will bring out the big guys.

Yea, that's what I have heard - are they open to accepting new folks? What about the Leesville Lake series and the REEL series? Some of the weekly events during the summer aren't in love with the idea.
Thanks.

There are new people all of the time at Angler's Choice events. Kinda easy to just blend in with 200+ boats, haha. Pretty much any tournament on the lake will welcome newcomers.
The Reel Drag and probably Leesville Lake series will have a higher percentage of "more casual" anglers. That's simply because the potential winnings aren't as large.

Far as I know leesville is acceptable to anyone.....now if ya come down here and win 10 or so of the tournies they might not like it too good but......if ya that good then somebody will have to step up lolololol...... We have 2 guys that could of fished the pro circuit and made a living at it years ago probably.....Ed Smith and Jerry Elder that fish them pretty regular....give it a shot if ya like....most all leesville boys are just ole country boys that like to fish
