After seeing the new 360 view fish finders, I wondered if I couldn't put my side scan transducer on a shaft that could be lowered and turned in any direction while slow trolling or setting still. This is a very crude set up but I just wanted to see if would work.....any thoughts?

Basically the same thing as having it on the trolling motor and turning it. The trick is being able to interpret what it's seeing on the screen - the new SpotlightScan from Lowrance has a forward looking element and the hummingbird does as well - the software knows where the head is looking and can draw it on the right place of the 360 display.
With your setup you'll have to just think which is which. Maybe use a left-only or right-only display screen and manually turn it - it will output in the linear fashion.
Not sure how well it's going to draw an image when turned front/back - would be interested to see some screen shots or recordings. Could be a useful technique at times.

Thanks mward, as for the right and left screens it should not be a problem because it would only be turned 90 degrees in each direction to cover the full 360. I'm going to the lake in the morning and will try to get screen shots.
