Does anyone do any night time summer fishing for stripers? With it being rather warm during the day plus the recreational traffic is this an option? If so any advice on methods? Live bait downlines, light lines, jigging, trolling? I work second shift so nights would be good time for me. Get off work catch bait or rig up artificial and fish til the sun comes up. Just wondering if this would work. Thanks

rdnkjp, When I started fishing SML in 1980, I was 25 years old and an older guy ( heck I say older guy but prolly mid 50"s but at the time I thought it was old) took me under his wing and taught me just about every thing he knew about Striper fishing. He loved to fish at night, and he always said the the night bite in the summer didn't start good until Aug, 1st. I fished a lot of summer nights with him for prolly 10 years and we caught a bunch of fish. My biggest SML striper , august 5th, biggest smallmouth aug. 9th , biggest walleye aug. 19th all at night. Haven't fished at night in the summer in 10 years, to old and lazy, but I can't imagine it's changed that much. Every fish we caught at night was either on a redfin or similar plug casting to the bank. There is one cliff in particular we have caught a bunch of citation stripers off of. Sometimes it would sound like someone was on top of the cliffs throwing cinder blocks in the water when the fish would come up, bout scare you to death. Check your pm's for the cliff location, If it still produces like it use to, you can claim it as your secret spot and please let me know how you do. b

Hey Bigun thanks so much for the info and the secret spot. Will check it out soon and definitely let you know something. I am fairly new to striper fishing and lake fishing in general. I grew up fishing ponds and Craig's creek.

Hey man, no thanks needed. I had a lot of help when I first started. I hope you do good......
If you haven't fished at night much (casting to the banks) it's a whole other world, be careful and take extra baits, the trees & rip rap like to eat them to...

Bigun I have fished at night during the spring when the shad are spawning and it is a lot of fun. Always night fished from around hales Ford bridge to the s curves. That'd about as far as I feel comfortable going at night.

Most likely going to try Friday and maybe a little Friday night, if it don't storm, first night I've been off for a while, most likely around Betty's and Becky's creeks, and see what I can find, If anyone is about I will have my radio on 16, call sign is CorneliaGale, or a dark red pontoon with a white top.

Best outing I've had at night during high heat of summer was a few years back down near the dam with my brother in early July. About 2am fish came up on a shallow point and my brother must have caught a dozen or more. I don't think I caught a fish. ....wait, that wasn't a very good night.
