My wife and I fished from 8;30 pm til 3;30am. They pulled up around 11;00 and ate !!....... My wife broke her bad luck streak, She landed 5 that were 2-2 1/2 lbs. She stuck several more that came off and had a pig on that busted the line at the boat. I got 2 13-14 inchers. I missed 4 blowups on the thunderstick then smacked a rock and broke the lip off that, tried another with the same results, I hooked up with 5-6 on worms to have them come off. It rained a little, then it rained a lot, we waited a storm out in the truck for about 35 minutes. Not to bad of a night ,Not my best, irritated with my thundersticks and they wouldn't touch a redfin then broke off 3 rigs back to back cast I figured I call it a night. They were still bustin when we left. Water looked a little stained and was 80 when we got there and 78 when we left.

what kind of hooks were you using that all them bass got off? i rarely ever stick a fish and have it come off, usually only happens to me with catfish when im using a thicker hook. your hooks may not be sharp, or youre not setting them hard enough. i would seriously question something if i had that many fish come off. there was a spell i had where i couldnt hook up with anything, id set the hook hard and everytime the fish would come off during the fight or not get hooked at all. this happened 2-3 times before i started looking at my gear and tackle. comes to find out i had a dull pack of eagle claw worm hooks, the whole pack was like that. i gave them away and started using gamakatsu, havent had a problem with staying hooked up since then.
atleast you were on fish though...

I think ya hit the nail on the head, I was using 5/0 eagle claws. Could find the 5/0 gamagatsu that I normally use. I normally do not have that problem using the gamakatsu hooks. Really that is the only thing I changed, My wife tells me she looks any time for me to fall off the boat when I set the hook, Don't think hookset is the problem. I did notice the E/C hooks didn't feel nearly as sharp, Ususally I'll get them in and the hook is up through there nose, have a hard time getting it out. No more cheap hooks, ya get what ya pay for. I tried some of the vicious hooks and kept breaking them on the hook set. Anyways thanks for your input, I'm glad to see them finally eating worms again.

some types of eagle claw hooks i do just fine with, but i wont buy anymore of their worm hooks for bass fishing. i still got some laying around in my tackle bag. The vicious hooks, they just looked cheap, glad i didnt get them despite being 1.99 a pack.

Yes sir they are, I used some 2/0 and 5/0 and they break right in the bend with stout line and a good hookset. May be alright with mono line and a medium action rod, I like a 7 ft mh for rigging. My favorite was the Allstar but I broke that last year, using a 6'6" and it aint the same. Got a real nice quantum kvd signature series 7 ft mh, scared to use it for rigging, don't wanna break it.

Here's a tip: The larger the hook you use, you will normally have less barb penetration, because the barb is also larger. The smaller hooks you can use for the job, the better off you are as far as penetration goes. Big hooks are not always better.

I had the opposite problem a couple weeks ago when I caught some gizzards and used the same (1/0) hooks I had for ales. Little or no barb stuck out once I had hooked the bait. The gizzards got mutilated and spat back out but the hook never touched whatever killed them. A few months ago someone (Gotcha?) posted that it is worth the time to change the hook size with every bait, if it needs to be. But did I listen?

No? That 1/0 wouldn't be a drop shot hook would it? It penetrates by looking at it! But it's not big enough for shad! The only problem I have with the vicious And EClaw hooks is them straitning out! Still prefer gama! Size does matter! Least that's what she said!

i always try and match my hook size to the bait im using.
ive never had a problem with hooks straightening out unless it was a gold e/c abeerdeen hook which is thin wire anyways. go figure though, i can hook a 40lb flathead with an abeerdeen hook that didnt bend before the line snapped during the fight, yet i lost a crappie over 20 inches at SML because it bent the abeerdeen hook, i didnt have the net and was trying to pull it out of the water up to the dock, the water was low and i was laying on my stomach on the dock inches away from lipping this monster crappie and SPLASH!!!! dang bent hook...
