When you put the motor on, it has to be registered in Virginia.

Thanks for the heads up guys.
I've got my temporary registration, just waiting for the State to send my #.
Good thing too - been stopped twice already.
I had a feeling a lake like this would be pretty heavily policed.
See ya out there.

I have been stopped every time I ever took a boat on the water in va. Until I got my current boat, now I have not been pulled once. I have never gotten a ticket yet because I have always had all the gear and license needed. However, I left the dock a few weeks ago without enough PDFs with 3 boys on the boat. Made it 200 yards and the wife called and said to check for PDFs the boys had been using them with the canoe. Sure enough it was turnaround time. I believe I need to go buy some more PDFs before I get a real surprise.

Also remember SML is federal waters and children under 13 are required to wear PFD;s when underway.

You got that right. My son was more excited when he turned 13 so he did not have to wear his pfd all day than he was to be a teenager. I understand the importance of it, but on the days when it was over 100 degrees outside I felt sorry for the fellow having to wear that jacket all day. At least there was always plenty of water around to pour over him. Then when you would get back he would be chaffed from the wet pfd. Hey but I still have him and that is surely what matters most.
