I thank everyone for taking this thread and running with it. This is exactly what we need; civil, passionate conversation about what can be done to secure the future. I think it would be good if this conversation would occur not just on this board, but in the community as a whole. What do I mean? Let me share a little story. I had a friend and his family visit a few weeks ago. We all went to church Sunday morning and a little old lady was greeting my friend. He informed her they were visiting us and doing a little fishing. She excitedly asked him if he caught any stripers. She obviously had pride in the stripers in the lake, but I pretty much guarantee she has no idea of the recent stocking failures. Be ambassadors, that's all I'm saying. Get the word out.

I haven't gone to the striper club meetings, but my parents went up until about five years ago. One thing they told me was that the DGIF had reduced the number of fingerprints they were stocking. Is this true? If so, and given the comments about having fewer striper, why don't they increase the stocking?

I haven't gone to the striper club meetings, but my parents went up until about five years ago. One thing they told me was that the DGIF had reduced the number of fingerprints they were stocking. Is this true? If so, and given the comments about having fewer striper, why don't they increase the stocking? Stocking some years back used to be higher - but the fish to forage ratio was getting out of wack and there was some potential impact on other fisheries in the lake - we were cramming too many fish into the system for the resources at the time. So stocking was reduced from the 400k-450k range down to 300k for a few years, then more recently 325-350k. We had a few years back to back to back with poor survival so this year stocking will be increased to around 400k-425k assuming the hatchery is able to produce sufficient number of fish. This is an on-going manage activity done by DGIF to try and keep everything in balance.

I am glad I saw this thread. We lived on Craddock Creek for 20 years but moved to Richmond to be nearer to our family. We still own the house on Craddock but I have not been back to fish the lake since last May. We will be there all of this May and part of June.
What is the current regulation for (slot limit)? I also don't keep many fish and prefer to release them. I may keep two a week to eat....nothing better than fresh striped bass.
No question the striped bass fishery has gone through many changes and challenges since I started fishing the lake in 1991.

Best to always refer to the DGIF published regs - every angler should really have a copy - but... Currently the slot is in place from Nov 1 - May 31. During this time, no striped bass 30"-40" may be harvested.
