Went with skiff2013, arrived at day break. Bait was deep, hard to reach with an 8' 1/2". Tried at three markers out of BayRock. None found. Found great bait at mouth of big trestle, to deep. Found some at Moormans, to deep. Went to back of Beavers Dam and Lynville, small pods, to deep. Headed back to Mormans and ran into drag4striper. He was able to reach good bait with his patience and skills. Gave us the hope that we could catch some bait. He did offer some bait, but, we declined thinking that we could catch them. 30 throws and two dozen 3" alewives later, we were back up in drag4striper' area pulling small bait. Drag4striper offered the bait for a second time and we took it. A dozen healthy 9" gizzards. Caught a striper (29") on a channel board during a turn. Started pulling across from Mormans. Kept hearing splashing from the dock areas, but, couldn't see anything. Finally saw the stripers breaking in the boat dock area of Moormans. Hustled over and threw my famous lure (my board name) and hooked a nice one. Came at me and under the bat wrapping around the motor and snapping the braided line. If you find a striper with this in its mouth, that's the fish. cloud.tapatalk.com/s/58517fa131324/20161214_113404.jpg?Caught another (29") on the channel side board just after the break off. Called it a day. Peace out.

Thanks for the report. I missed getting up there last week. Was hoping the deeper bait was just temporary and that it would come back up before it got good and cold, but this is bad news for a 6' net.

Glad you guys got on a few fish, sorry you lost the nice one. Hope I didn't rub off on you. Love your home spun spoon, my first several striper citations came on a homemade spoon.

That is a true, dollar store, table spoon.
Thank you again for your help.
I'm looking at a 9' 1" cast net. Think that will help? I can throw an eight fairly good.
Hope to see you out there again.

I would say the weight of the net and mesh size would be more important for deep bait than size.

Quick question while we are on the reaching bait subject. Can anyone tell me what this is? Thank you.

Do you have a down scan shot of the same thing?
In my opinion that usually gives you a picture of what you are looking at that is easier to interpret.

Unfortunately not. His structure scan module is not working.
While we are this subject, does anyone know of a used LSS 2 HD module for sale? His side scan and down scan went out, Lowrance said it was the module.

Smaller bait with maybe a few fish lurking below

I guess that with the larger mesh, I will have to start smelling the net to see if the bait is sneaking through. So I've heard.

I recently went through replacement of the module. I read several different possible cause for the problem. The most common is the simple replacement of the cable. When that didn't work, I called Lowrance and they had me go through a series of test and resets to determine if it was a different cable, the transducer or the box. In my case, it was the box. I ended up buying mine on Ebay for about $150 but I had to be patient. Most units seem to go for a fair amount more. The other box I had must have been going bad for a long time as the new (used) one is far better in image clarity.

Thank you for the reply. I've been watching ebay, but, as you mentioned, most are more than what Lowrance will send. If fixable, $59, if not fixable, $399. The unit isn't powering up. No visible lights.
Thanks again for all that replied to this thread.
