I am very new to striper fishing. Thanks to this forum, I have learned some techniques and had some success. But let me ask a dumb question. When fish are breaking like that, what do you use. Do you cast bait with your usual rig, or do you switch to something different. If you have kids, should you keep a spinning rod on board to prevent the birds nest. Thanks for any tips. JH Usually you just run around the boat in such a frenzy that you don't really know what to do - then you manage to tangle up every rig you have trying to cast something, catch a 1/2 dozen treble hooks in your buddy's jacket or hat, knock your Bogas out of the boat and if you're lucky, not fall out of the boat yourself

I prefer topwater like a creek chub striper strike. I make my own topwater lures that are similar. Use the 4-4.25 inch one. Get a white, clear with prism insert, silver, or metallic color all have a white bucktail on the back treble. Don't rip it back to you, just barely pop it on the surface keeping it on top, looking like a wounded shad. I have my grandson learning to use a baitcaster but his backup is a zebco 733 reel on a 6 ft mh ugly stick. It will easily handle 20lb test line. He can sling that plug 40 yards, just dont get behind him. Lol. Get or make lure wraps to cover the lures when you are not using them.
