February didn't start off that great. Fished boards, downs, light lines, casting, jigging, Big shad, medium shad, ales. Got one early in the morning to avoid the skunk. Had nervous baits, fish up on the downs and jigs all day long but they just didn't want to eat just like Sunday. Made for a long frustrating day. Missed a few jigging but that was it fished from 7 to 2. Only one fish in the low 20s to show.
2-2: decided to use smaller bait pulling boards and lite lines in a creek close to my house. Went out a little later about 8:30. Hooked up two on light lines right away but they were dinks. Maybe averaged 12". Keep pulling got a pull back but was gone before I got to the rod. Kept pulling started seeing some swirl ups on the boards about mid creek. Finally it turned on. Had a board get nailed, fish almost spooled me before I could get it stopped, by that time it was 200 yards behind the boat. It was the longest fight I've had on this lake. Got the fish to the boat and netted like the amateur I am. Got it by the tail and couldn't get his weight in the net. Dumped him to go for the head and he broke me off. It was a big fish I wish I could have measured but in my book once I touch the fish with the net it's a catch . Was about to throw my rod in the water when another board went off. Landed that one it was a skinny 34. Only weighed 13lbs. Spun around on that stretch 5 or 6 times picking up a total of 6 fish there. Biggest was a 16 lb 35 inch on a light line. If anyone lost a red J hook in a large fish on a prominent creek on the BW side I have your hook.
Pulled the same creek all day from 8:30 to 4:00. Ended up with 12 fish, 5 over 32". Caught 7 on boards 5 on lite lines.
As I was about to pull my lines in I was thinking to myself I haven't missed a hook set all day. Sure enough bait comes up getting swirled on grab the rod board goes back. Swing and miss.
Awesome day. It's amazing how quick things can change. No doubt the best day I've had on my boat.
