Finally got around to compiling my logs / reports to tally for my Angler Diary and send to Dan Wilson @ DGIF. Data does not 100% compare as last year in terms of # of trips because this time if I fished the AM, maybe with one or more, but then slipped out in the evening by myself I just logged this as one trip - last year I think I did this as 2 - but that was rare enough that it washes out. As I've stated before, I capture here not to flaunt anything but rather to force me to work the data and review it - and be able to look back at it in the future.
A few less trips this year in total..... Feb was a washout last year because of the cold/ice and conflicts on my side and I fished only once in June somehow. Less fish caught overall but had basically the same # of fish 35" or larger, and same # of citations to the boat. No night fishing trips this year - that was disappointing.
It "felt" like we caught more fish in the 30"+ range, but can't be sure as some of my data recording was not that accurate in that level. The "big fish" (35" or better) were the same. We skunked less and had less trips under our "boater limit" - so I guess it was a "better" year in that regard. We kept a few more fish this year in total - had a couple more summer-time trips with family & friends which resulted in fish-frys I guess.
At the end of the day (the year?) however, it was a great year - I got to get out and spend time on the water, spend time with good friends and family, have some laughs, have some cries (when we lost some nice fish), make several new friends, and put some folks on their biggest fish ever or their 1st fish ever. Those are probably the only statistics that really, really matter.......
The statistics - and you know what they say.... there are Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics )
Total Trips = 55 (13 less than last year, call it 10 less based on change in recording)
Total Hours Fished = 264 (3.5 less than year before - probably within range of recording error)
# of "Skunks" = 3 (9 less than last year)
Avg # of fish per trip: 4.5
Avg # Anglers / Trip = 2.4 (same as last year)
# of Trips under our boater limit (see below) = 29
% of Trips under our boater limit = 53% (6% better than last year)
Boater Limit - if 2 people, then 4 fish (regardless of harvested or released), if 1 then 2, if 5 then 10, etc)
Total Fish caught = 248 (37 less than last year)
Total Fish Harvested = 23 (6 more than last year)
% Fish Harvested = 9%
Total Fish Released = 225
% Fish Released = 91%
Total Fish >= 35" = 13 (down 1)
% fish >=35" = 5.2% (up 0.5%)
Total Boat Citations = 6 (same)
# Citations = 2.4%
# of people catching citations on my boat this year: 5
# of people catching their personal bests on my boat this year: 4
# of people catching their 1st ever freshwater striper on my boat this year: 4
For grins - Total Length of fish caught = 6996.25" (almost 1000" less than last year, which is about right given we caught 37 less for the year - averages out to 37, 27" fish)
