Well now they are trying to blend in more than ever now . Had a little green 17 ft center console flat bottom with a 90 hp boat pull up behind me . Look like any old salty trying to catch a fish guess who . He was cool just ask for what he needed to see and went on about his way. I have all ways said with out the wardens there wouldn't be any fish in this lake for us to catch.

You're exactly right, without them there wouldn't be much. Still plenty of people that don't have any regard for what we have. I don't believe it's as bad as it used to be, but things still go on that shouldn't.

Over the years I've met a number of officials on the lake, both from Department of Fish and Game, and local police departments. I've only had one individual I thought was a jerk. One instance on the lake during winter, I spent more time talking with one official about where the fish were than he spent checking my boat and gear. On another instance in summer, after a Bedford police officer pulled my daughter on her jet ski, he drove on up to our boat - probably 200 yards away to tell me how well mannered and respectful my daughter was.
We have great officials on our lake.

I had a Henrico Police boat on a huge zodiac with twin 350's pull up beside me (on the James River) and take a picture of one of the biggest blue catfish that I have ever seen, never mind caught!! That's all he did...........

I had a deputy sheriff pull up to me three years ago and insisted he pull in to the bow of my boat. Seriously bow to bow. I was running 6 planers, 4 downline, 1 float and a freeline going into a steady 5 knot wind. I asked him to give me a minute and come alongside after I pull some lines in. He insisted bow to bow! Which he did. After checking me I had one line that was not tangled! That guy was an idiot and a jerk. I called and complained to his boss. So they aren't all good guys folks. Just my 2 cents.

Same type deal at sml. Pulling two u-rigs he pulls me over and I explain that if I stop I will lose $80. Rolls his eyes and lets me reel em up. 4 hours later same cop same deal I'm pulling two u-rigs. I asked him if it was necessary to check me again on the same day and he didn't respond. Told him he had to wait he didn't like that either. Did my thing and he boarded me this time. He was a *bleep*.
Had a problem with a coastie while on a jet ski. Another *bleep*.

Come out to the Striper Club meeting this Friday evening - 7pm - we'll have one of the DGIF Enforcement officers there to speak to the Club - I know he'll have some great stories of some fishermen he approached from the bow , u-rig fisherman and lots of good jetski stories Seriously - this is a good chance to interact with them - for us to share any concerns/issues we have, let us get their perspective on how to make our collective lives easier, and how we can all look out for each other on the water..... Jan 8th - 7pm, Moneta Community Center, Rucker Rd - back/lower level of the Pharamacy building - just before you get to the fire dept.

Wish I could make it. Ask him who in hell came up with the bow to bow idea. Whoever it was sure does not understand a dang thing about how we fish or probably doesn't care.

That bow to bow operation is safety concerns if shots are fired. They can duck behind the console. Same as when they pull you over in your vehicle. They park their cruiser on an angle for cover. You must have given him the evil eye and looked scary. Did you threaten him with one of those big 5 ounce spoons??

Actually we had just caught two fish and released them. Had all lines out and he comes up from behind me. I asked him to wait a minute and I'll move some rods around and he can come along the starboard side. He said no I'm coming front to front. Yes called it front-real boater this guy was. I said that won't work because I'll get all my lines tangled, I was reeling in a planer as I said it. He guns his motor races ahead, does a U turn and comes straight back at me. Then when about 5 feet from my boat going about 15mph he slams his boat in reverse and I still had to hold him off my bow with a foot. Then with my TM now off, because he told me to quit operating it, shad all running around greeting each other he takes about 20 minutes to tell me why front to front doesn't bother my fishing. FYI, when I talked to the Sheriff later he told me his deputy has no authority to tell me to stop my TM unless it is impeding his ability to check me. All I was trying to do was keep moving forward and save some mess, but "the best laid plans"... The sheriff wouldn't say where the idiotic Bow to Bow issue came from. Oh and he found my mounted fire extinguisher was on the line between green and red and said, "that's a citation, (with glee and a smile)". I pulled one from the front locker green, and one from the CC locker (also green) and then he decided to pass me and move on. By then I had all lines tangled except the one I was reeling in he when he pulled in. Sorry folks but this guy wasn't out to make any friends, he was out to give citations. Period. I talked with 3 other guys in that creek and all said the same thing-he was a jerk, and in one instance made a threat to arrest a guy because he was taking too long to get his life jackets out of a locker. I will say most of the Game wardens I've talked with were pretty nice and no big issues, most of the attitudes I've run into are the Sheriff's deputies.

I, for one, am glad they are out and about. It can certainly be a pita when they decide to check you but I have nothing to worry about. Some of them are ***bleeps*** ,but guess what, I am too sometimes. Just remember they have a job to do and that job isn't always an easy one. Just my .02 cents
