A few general questions about catching bait, specifically catching big gizzards this time of year.
Is anyone catching baits on lights this time of year?
Is it more rare for the big gizzards to move up into the shallow flats (8' or less). Seems like all we ever get in the shallow flats are peanuts.
Do the Mongos travel with/under the peanuts or are they generally found in different areas?
I have a 10' 3/4" square net with 1.7 lbs per foot lead. Is it likely that I can catch bigger shad in depths greater than 8'-10' in the daylight hours? Night time?

This one's for Yam.....
"Where oh where, is the big bait tonight.... why did you leave me here all alone.... I searched the lake over and thought I found big bait, but down came the rain and pffft it was gone"

Serious now...
Alewife and juvinelle gizzards, but have not tried for big ones of the lights - may be a few but not like they would be in early Fall
nope..... Friday I got 18 in less than 5' of water in the back of a creek. As the temperatures cool even further, the flats will be the place to look when it's sunny out - as they will warm the water ahead of the deeper and some of the big bait will move up
good question - my experience seems to be that they will be in similar areas, but not necessarily in the same "pods"
the heaver net like that will close faster as it sinks. 3/4" mesh helps by letting more water through so that it does not drag/parachute as bad as a 1/2 or 5/8" net would.... you're probably good up to 15' or so - but 20'-30' is going to be tougher - not that you won't get a few
