I guess better late than never. Took my son and a friend of mine out for some striper fishing Sunday morning. Caught my bait the night before , mostly just small ales I had to really work for. Started out looking on the lower end of blackwater and was not seeing much. Went scouting the Roanoke end from sportsmans up to R 22. Really did not see much but a few singles here and there. Decided to run back to blackwater. Started to mark decent pods of fish mid blackwater so we set out 8 down rods at around 40 ft. I don t know if the full moon messed with them but we were dragging bait right through fish without any hits. Finally we had a rod bend into the water and start ripping drag. My son jumped on it and after a bit of a difficult time he got it to the boat. It was a slow morning but we managed 4 stripers and a nice channel cat . Gonna try again this Labor Day weekend early am before it gets to crazy out. Looking forward to some fall fishing.

Nice report seajay. In opinion the fish feed more at night on a full moon. The moon can sky light the bait and fish feed in the peace and quiet.

I've never fished bait at night - I think you or another posted a positive report from last week doing that. It does seem the bite is later in the day - towards noon - when it is a full moon..... although I also found something interesting this summer - it seems the bite has been later in the morning all summer.... previous years it seemed the bite was done and over by 9-10, which was fine as that is when all the wakeboard / ski boats came out. This year it seems you won't mark a fish until after 8, and then not hit the schools till almost 10 or later......

Sailor does look pretty cool as he slipped in the pic Gator. Mike I think you hit the nail on the head. If the fish feed most of a moon lite night. Again my opinion , It stands to reason they wouldn't feed ( heavy ) again until around midday the following day.

They have many solunar hunting an fishing apps. These tell you your major an minor feeding periods according to the moon. It impressed me at how accurate these charts were. I got to where I fished these times this past spring an summer at nite on sml with lots of success. But remember nothing is 100 percent.
