I've been reading on here for a while now figured I'd start posting. Went down to the dock at 5:00 Saturday morning to get bait. All i could catch was the small gizzard shad. I picked out a little more than a dozen larger ones in the 3-4" range. While it was getting daylight I tried a couple other lights in the area with no results. Frustrated we went out in search of the fish. It has been about a month since i was fishing at the lake. I saw many people fishing in one spot there so I assume there was a school but I have not yet invested in a trolling motor. I tried to find suitable water to bottom fish but it seemed too shallow along the banks. After looking around from Becky's and Betty's to the state park I just went to a point i had caught fish last time. It was around 8:30 before we got all settled in. Caught one striper about 26". Left around 9:30 too many skiers and wakeboarders rocking the boat around. Sunday my light was doling nothing but baby gizzards again. Left the dock at 5:00 went to captains quarters to my surprise only one other person there. Caught a dozen large ales and about six small ones. Went back to the same spot. Immediately caught one 29" fish one the small ales. another half hour caught another in the same fashion it was slightly smaller. Caught no fish on the jumbo ales. Rarely ever do catch fish on them unless on boards. Is this the consensus? Kept all fish.

I have trolled ales from anywhere from 3-6" this past couple of months. I have not noticed that the bigger ales have caught fish. I have just started to fish for the past couple months so Im not experienced.

Summer fishing is oftentimes at best--bad. It will get better. Thanks for reporting.

Seems like they are keyed in on smaller bait - I've not had a lot of luck with down-lined mongo ales recently either.

Hard for me to admit but sometimes big bait is not better bait That said, I'll be pulling the mongos

You may want to down size the Godzilla lure as well.
Did you ever find a source for fish measuring boards?

You may want to down size the Godzilla lure as well. I didn't have high expectations..... but wanted to give it a try..... never did get on a big school of fish where I felt the spoon could have done something....... never know if you don't try thought Yep - we've got some metal bent (thanks Gator)... and are doing some custom stickers to go on them... (thanks Kurt!) - StriperMafia customs!

I am looking at making a wooden measuring board that telescopes out for longer lengths. Maybe 7.5 inches wide for large fish and 26 inches long with a pull out for measuring up to 48 inches. Pine is cheap and oak would be the premium board.
