Got on the water today by 4am minus my SBTII. I planned on doing the jig thing. But... Oops... My net just happened to be in the boat. Thus I pumped up some water from 40 feet into my livewell and holding tank and turned on my recirculation pump. I had about 3 dozen 5 to 9 inch ales. The local ducks had about 30 dozen dinks.
My efforts to keep my ales alive went far beyond normal. In fact, as I was down lining my somewhat stiff bait at .5 mph, I actually pulled my pump behind the boat to recirculate cool water. What a sight!
It worked great if you were not an ale. My guess is that the cold water I was pulling up was O2 deprived which is probably worse than the surface water.
In short, I really learned to appreciate my bait tank once again! A rekindling of love.
Fish? I did catch one on a spunky, freshly caught ale right as morning was breaking. But unfortunately, Todd was in the area pulling his spread which included 10 to 15 other vulture boats. 3 of them came my way when I landed a fish and I immediately ran for the hills and didn't catch another fish all morning.
I did mosey back down to Todd's fleet just to watch. It was nuts. There was Todd, smack dad right in the middle of a boatload of boats. Many were very close and then you had all the outlier lurkers. He turned left, and the flock followed. I felt like throwing my dead ales at them and spraying them with some cold stinky water.
I enjoyed the rest of my day with my son and gorgeous wife. We found a place of peace all to our own and had a wonderful day on the lake.

Wasn't really about the fishing. Nice day I'm sure.

Wasn't really about the fishing. Nice day I'm sure. I wrestled with this as well... Is this a fishing report? In essence, to me, fishing transcends the fishing act. Trying novel things out and reporting your perceptions of your environment while fishing, constitutes a fishing report. In my opinion, they are just as important as water temperature and depth. BTW, I love that creek that is named after your other passion. Thank God those farmers kept their land. Find a shadey cove, stake your claim, sing nap songs to your kid.... and enjoy the peace... Hiawassee style!

Any day on the water is a good day.. fish or no fish. Now if you had one of the Godzilla lures like Mike's, one cast across the bow and all the lurkers and followers would have scattered. Godzilla has a much influence as a 300 Weatherby.

That creek (Bulls Run) is changing - a bunch of land is up for auction - but in the back after it necks down is AEP land - I agree with you that I hope it stays.... If they'd just get rid of the wakeboard course it'd be more peaceful
