I think you are halfway there. You are getting half the net to open fully. To get the other half, try this.
Make the two piles as even as you can.
Make the distance between your two arms just a bit wider than shoulder length keeping the lead line between your two hands fairly tight.
Point your right toes in the exact direction you are throwing.
The rest of your body including left foot should be 90 degrees to the left of your right foot.
Hold your net out in front of you as far as you can and lock your arms.
Swing back as far as you can to your left with your arms locked.
Swing right and throw the net where you intended with a slight upward motion.
Let go of the lead line at the same time with both hands. The exact time to let go is a feel thing. I like to think my two hands are almost laying out a quilt on a bed.
Try different speeds and note that often times, a slower speed with a fluid motion will get the best results.
Think Frisbee.
try #1, practice practice, practice, What do you think?
It looks to me like your motion was a bit jerky right at first. Secondly, it looks like your net was tangled a bit in your right hand pile which then caused it to get hung up.
Other than that, everything else looks pretty good. You might consider trying the back corner of the boat. I found that a more confined space forced me to throw easier and often times resulted in a better throw.
You are definitely going to catch bait real soon.
And just so you know, I still have a long way to go on my throw as well. II would rate my throws at about 70% open on average. And that last 30% is a real bear to capture consistently for me.
castnets have a tendency to "find" something to hang on.
Yep...
- Trolling motor top end - Trolling motor blade - cleat - nav lights - your trolling motor remote - your jacket zipper - docks - Every tree, stick, log, pole, tire, fence, barbed wire, rock, stump, auto parts, and more that are underneath the water.....

I'll add:
Metal beams by the big light. Fishing poles. Jacket buttons. Stinger hooks. Gas pumps. Dip net. Dock nails. Rod holders. Bimini hardware. My glasses. My hat. Living tree limbs. Squirrels. Lights that are 15 feet in the air. And my worst moment... A baby duck.

I keep my remote tucked in my shirt. I can pretty much always use it unless I have too many layers on.
Hey Yam.....I'd take a duck over a snake any day. Caught a 5' gator once down in FL. That was a b!t)4.
Yowsa...5 ft Gator. I cant even fathom how you were able to get your net back from that.
I managed to get it out after a couple of hours. I probably would have killed it but there were a few bystanders and I knew better. Caught the darn thing throwing from the bank at night. Thought it was a bunch of mullet when I first saw it. I was wrong. I'll show you the scars on my hand some day.
My Dad always says---If your dumb you better be tough

Dang Gator my dad told me when I was going to Vietnam "remember son when you do something stupid you can make up for it by bring tough or by using superior firepower!"

Here ya go Primetime. Watching you practice your throwing made me get off of my butt and get working!
I found today that the shrimper's method works best for me with my 1" net. When using my thumb to replace my teeth, the big 1" mesh tends to get caught up in my fingers. However, as I went down to a half inch mesh, I found the thumb method worked better.
Nice vid Yam. I learned with the teeth method and just don't try other methods. It's all about timing, technique, and to me, most importantly loading your net correctly. My Dad NEVER threw a net with his teeth he ALWAYS throws dry. It's a thing of beauty watching that 72 year old man toss a net. He picks it up, clears it, loads it and the damn thing flies off the boat. Comes back full of roe mullet.

I love witnessing old-timer finesse. No amount of practice can achieve it.... Just years. And they have no clue how good they are.
The video is GREAT! Maybe you could team up with Dr. Sonar and sell your video. I really like the method. I don't have to put the net on my shoulder which causes me to get wet. Thanks again, I'll be throwing my mango Tim Wade in the back of creeks soon. From last year's reports it looks like about 3 more weeks until I need to throw for the mongos
