Tommy - How often were you changing the water - and how much each time? That pump rig looks familiar Mike it was changed twice a day. changing around 11am on my way back in after the morning bite and again around 9:30pm after my evening trip. The amount? I changed it all with the filter assembly out, just enough water to keep them swimming was left in the tank. I was doing partial water changes however it seems to me that the complete water change works best if changed before to much temperature change occurs between whats in the tank and what im pulling up from 30ft.

gotcha - that's sort of what I've found works best too..... and if you see any baits that are turning black on their backs you need to go ahead and pitch them out as once they go they can turn the rest of the tank Did you notice any baits getting sort of a bleeding look on their skin after a few days? I use around a cup of salt per 10 gal - and have wondered it it is a bit too much salt on them..... of course, for longer term storage, how you handle the baits when catching them is critical. Need to avoid as much scale loss as possible. Dumping the net on the boat deck and letting them flop around while you try and pick them up to shuttle to the tank like I do is not really a "best practice" in bait catching

When you are refilling your tank do you just dump the salt in while the ales are in there or put the salt it in a 5 gal bucket of well water to mix. Also, any other solution you put with the water change? Thanks

Also, any other solution you put with the water change? Thanks I do just dump the salt and better bait as it is filling or after im finished cleaning my filters. Also while i am searching for bait my tank is ready with everything in and ready to go. Mike, I agree if anything looks out of the ordinary, bleeding black spots/patches, separation from the rest of the bait, high in the tank all are tell tell signs to get rid of that bait that looks or acts different from the rest! Strong odor and water starting to cloud is another sign you need to do a water change soon! With a little care and attention to detail I would be curious how long you could actually keep ales. I have dumped them on the boat but not a good idea, what you don't keep seems to struggle if they even make it so i have changed my way of sorting now. The ducks are a little ticked but......

Thanks for all the info. Caught some ales at dock light but they didn't make it to next day. Need to take the advice on the filtration and cold water tank. Caught a big largemouth on a mini umbrella. May try the green sassy next. Will be working on that tank for next year trip. Just think if someone put you in a bucket, removed your oxygen and made you breathe in chlorine. Would you still wiggle if I put a hook in you? Was able to keep them alive with the cold water from frozen water bottle and an aerator with frequent water change. Some died, but most lived. Do they sell 20 gallon tanks ? Wouldn't mind having one for in the basement and one for on the boat.

SuperBait tank has a 20 gal - but I'd recommend bigger - especially for a home tank.
