Watched Capt Todd on The Shad Taxi and CatsNStripers pull in the fish on Monday. We couldnt get on the bait so spent some time trolling. It's time to book a trip to get things rolling. These alewives are real tough to keep alive. What's the top color for urigs right now ?

Ales are not too hard to keep alive but you need: - salt - half to 1 cup per 10 gal - filtration - have to have a filter to capture the ales scales - cold water - 65-70 degrees - good aeration
Others can help you in the urig color - but I see a lot of green and blue/white being used.

My tank and whats left of the ales after fishing 5 days!

I 2nd the 5" translucent green sassy shad. White is good as well, but I reserve it for the trailer.
Try trolling faster, 4-5 mph.

I mean when you touch them the scales come off on your fingers and they feel almost paperish? That also leads to them not lasting long once stuck with a hook. That's been my experience after keeping ales for over a day. Just wondering if you're seeing the same.

Green Hammer with a white hammer trailer on 3/4 oz jig heads, 9" leaders on the main 8 and a 18" leader on the trailer is what I have been using. I will put out more than one and change to the combo that is producing. I have had my best days ,lately, trolling at 2.8 with a zig-zag, stop and go pattern. Depth depends on the location but mostly been 18-20 in depth. Tight lines.

Gator you are correct they do become more fragile with every day that passes. I would much rather use fresh bait.

Thanks for all the info. Caught some ales at dock light but they didn't make it to next day. Need to take the advice on the filtration and cold water tank. Caught a big largemouth on a mini umbrella. May try the green sassy next. Will be working on that tank for next year trip.

Tommy, they are some happy looking bait for being in there 6 day. Good job. Are they from a recent trip or cooler times?

Would you still wiggle if I put a hook in you?

Normally I would catch bait everyday but had the family and between playing going places ect. not much time to dedicate to just fishing, so i opted to try and keep them and it worked out with pretty good results. The citation was caught on Friday which at that time the bait was 4 days old.

Tommy - How often were you changing the water - and how much each time? That pump rig looks familiar
