I was showing the wife the posts about The family fishing together she said she would like to go when it's not so cold. I mainly bass fish during the summer months and striper fish during the fall when she said it to cold. If some one could give a general idea for early Saturday morning .Any where from Hardy to Black water

Not sure about the Roanoke side. Black water side I'd say you couldn't go wrong at Gills. Put in at the new ramp and you're just a small piece from gills. That way Momma isn't going for a long, windy, boat ride and getting cold. Plenty of good fish there. If you prepare for the conditions you'll be comfortable. Just bring enough layers. You can always take it off ( striperjohn and bigun leave it alone). Enjoy!

I though Stripper fishing was sort of an evening / nighttime activity - that way you can go Striper fishing in the morning if you're not too tired

Seriously though - I'd focus on Mid lake creeks either side - mouths of the creeks by late morning - part way in the creeks earlier

Certainly others on the board have much, much more experience, but I have not located any good stripper areas on the lake at all. Years ago, I guy I worked with was going to buy a house boat and make it a sort of floating, wandering stripper hot spot. Kind of like the Ice Cream Boat, but with different music. I think he is up for parole soon, so...fingers crossed on that idea still.

Hmmm I took my wife stripper fishing at The Great Alaskan Bush Company in Anchorage a few years back and she really enjoyed it.

Now catapillar - you can't go and edit your stripper to striper in the original post as it makes the rest of those post not make sense Just some good natured teasing on probably the most common mistake that we see.... Hope you weren't put off by the teasing.... I got a card of some sorts from my Mom one time about "stripper fishing" - had to correct her in front of some of her friends...... she was not pleased Lots of good folks on here that know a lot about chasing stripers..... and apparently a few that know about chasing the other kind too..... Hang around - don't hesitate to ask up questions - we won't be so hard on the next ones Oh - and hope you guys had some luck today - was a slow / tough one for a lot of folks from the reports I heard - the artificial bite was tough where I was and the live-bait bite seemed worse over there - heard it finally turned on a bit on the Roanoke side let morning.

Summer stripper fishing no i mean striper fishing is much different than fishing in the fall.We started about 5.30 am at Scruggs. Went up gills creek looking for bait no luck. Then we went half way back in BR found very little bait but netted a few. Went to mouth of BR did not see much on sonar and left and went back up to the big bend past gills creek. Marked some fish started pulling bait on boards and down lines and throwing A rig and lost it.Trolled there for a while still marked a few fish no luck. Went back to BR saw a lot of boats. Put out 2 boards and 2 down lines and try to get close enough but to stay out of every ones way. When right in front of us a boat pulling A rig snagging my down line. Got untangled saw we did not have the right lures and left.Hopefully I can keep reading ever ones post and learn more about summer striper fishing.

Catapillar - I was wondering last night if that was you and your wife - I was out with my buddy Mark yesterday in his blue and white bay boat with t-top - we saw that tangle mess - sorry they snagged you up like that. I think Mark talked with you for a minute while you were trying to untangle the aftermath. It's "close quarters" fishing this time of year.
On bait, your best best this time of year for live bait alewives - and easiest to get them off dock lights before daylight. 3/8" or 1/2" mesh net.
I don't like using boards this time of year - especially now as we are in late July and August, because you often need to check the baits due to them dying with the thermocline or heat - though they do seem to do better at the lower end of the lake. The other reason is when chasing schools and needing to make quick turns and such, boards can be a pain to deal with. With the fish at 30-50' (or heck - 115' as we saw) - Downlines are your best bet anyway.
As to trolling artificials - classic umbrella rigs with blue/white, Pearl or green seem to work - no reason your a-rigs would not work but you got to get them deep enough.
Better luck next time - was a tough bite in that area yesterday.....
