You are right Bigun. I am sure guides are familiar with having their spots poached by clients as well as random passersby, which I have to admit I am not above doing (I would generally be clueless otherwise), but as suggested I will avoid broadcasting the guide's locations.
Man, with all of the helpful advice you guys are really backing me into a corner here with almost no choice but to rent a boat. Now it's bait donations? Talk about enablers! Does time on the boat together still count as "couple time"?
If I did borrow some ales how would I keep them without a tank? I don't want to waste any donated bait but all I have is a minnow bucket. I could get an aerating bucket or an aerator but I still have to worry about temp and filtration.
Thanks!

I'd get a 5 gal or larger bucket - maybe a round "tub" like you put drinks or stuff in - and a good battery powered aerator (or two) - and then cool water with salt (1/2-1 cup per 10 gal) - 65 degree-ish - keep it cool during the day with ice (from dechlorinated water), or water frozen in a bottle and let the bottle bob around in the bucket.
You won't be able to deal with filtration, but as long as you're not too overly crowded in the bucket, you'll probably be OK for a morning.

Thanks MWARD. We are going out with Travis on Saturday the 5th so if I did rent a boat it would be on the 6th. With rentals costing $150-200 a day I'd probably be better off just doing 2 guided trips instead of all the hassle and expense of renting lol.

Good choice with Travis.
As to the second day - Depends what you want out of it. Certainly a higher chance of catching fish the second day - bs a whole lot less hassle - with a guide. But it's also nice to put something you've learned into practice and can be a lot lite rewarding. Plus, you can roam the lake later when the fishing's done.

So sept. 4th is coming up huh?? I have a quick piece of advice for a decent bait tank that will keep some baits for ya.
I bought a 10 gallon round water cooler from lowe's (they have plenty of 5 gallons, but I found some 10's) drilled some holes into the top, and through one of the holes put an air line through and attached a bubble box to the lid. This is my "fishing from the shore" bait tank because it is easy to carry and holds a decent amount of bait. Probably cost ya $50 total. Used to use it on the boat until I bought a bait tank. Just an idea.

The lake weekend finally came and Travis definitely delivered. We didn't kill them but we did get enough for a fun morning. I will post a report. I checked out the pontoons at Parkway and they do have fish finders trolling motors, and rod holders. We didn't end up renting a boat but I'm sure we will next trip. We turned on the dock lights and saw a fair amount of baitfish but they were really runty.
If last weekend is any indication, the lake is far too recreational for me during the summer months. I would definitely return in the off season though. The cove I was in was a zoo. I don't mind people having fun, I just personally am looking for something a little more relaxing and serene.

Most of us dislike summer fishing for the same reasons. I am sorry your experience lacked peace.

SML can be the most relaxing and serene place in the world to me or it can be the exact opposite. Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day are not those times. I still fish during the summer months but I am usually off of the water way before the craziness begins. Glad you were able to catch some fish!!

Yup we fisherman tend to "summerize" our boats, not winterize them............
