scouted several "new" spots on Fri. evening...didnt mark much. Kept looking for those nice schools MWard finds in the Roanoke. Finally remembered there's only 9 stripes in the Blackwater and settled for an occasional 2-3 fish pod. Jigged for them halfheartedly amongst the wake boats and a swarm of jet ski's....gave up well before twilight and called it a night. Caught a mess of white bass, carp, largemouth, crappie and a few alewives at Gill Creek lights later that night...threw the net until 2 guys came blowing down the hill in a gator and stood menacingly on the dock, turned the light out until I pulled away....I took the hint and headed home about 1AM.
Slept in Saturday and headed out around 4pm. The boat activity was extreme. Fished Gills and 3 Islands for a while...headed up to the cliffs and finally found fish. Caught 3 on weighted flatlines 27'', 29'', 29''. All three fish hit really hard and buried the rod. Had a few of my players from basketball teams of the past on the boat with me and they acted like we just won the Big Rock Tournament. Good time.
Fried them up that night with a huge bowl of beans and rice....weird combo but it worked.
