Weather: started in the 50's and rose to low 70's - winds from NE at 5-10 come around 9 in the morning
Water: 74-76, visibility of 5-10'
Techniques: aless on downlines (4) and lightness (4); Gizzards on freeline planers (4) and alewives on freeing planers (2)
Time fished: 6:30a - noon
Bait was tough on Thursday night for some reason so we once we hit a few lights with marginal success we decided it was time for some shut-eye. A massive 4 hours. Got up at 4am and headed to a couple of lights - finding the motherland of big ales at a nearby light.
Started again at daylight - this time picking the guys up at their rental house as it was much closer to the action from the day before.
The fish were breaking again but always just out of reach. We tried a few times when I got a call form one of the other guys about some fish nearby. We pulled everything in and run over there - making some scattered fish and it appears they had gone down for the day
The action started much quicker today - in the general area the fish had broke but when fishing with live bait.
Not as many pics taken of more dink fish, but we picked up 6 or so fairly quickly. When the bite seemed to have a lull we moved and fished the shoals we did the day before, but no luck this time. We then moved on up the lake some more and fished an area he did the day before.
When a lull set in we decided to move back to the spots where we caught the largest # of fish.
While pulling over a shoal and the board ripped back and we landed the biggest of the two days - 14 lbs and 34"
had a good morning of consistent action, a few doubles and almost a triple, and couple of bonus small & largemouth.
They ate these large to mono alewives (or bluebacks) today much better. We had a few fish on gizzard and the lightlines - and one, maybe two on downlines.
We called it a day around noon with 12 fish to the boat and headed in to get lunch as a group..... was great to fish with these guys - one of which had fished with Tyler & I back in 2012 when we had the event. It is always a true honor to take these guys out and give back to them in such a small way for what they have given to protect our Freedoms. Also a big thanks to the Club members which helped to support the event by donating their time and gas to host these guys!
