Where did all these white bass come from? Everything we get on seems to be the white bass...could be a wiper sometimes...any way to tell a difference between striper and white bass?

Stripers are longer and slimmer than white bass. White bass have a chunky look and from the eyes to the dorsal fin is almost a hump. Plus white bass lateral lines are very faded and the first line below the lateral line in front of the tail is barely visible, whereas on a stiper it is very visible. Twice in the last few years I've hit schools of small stripers that took everything under the boat. Great fun if kids are with you though.

Most likely white perch, google a pic. These things will take over a lake.In north Carolina as of last summer they are considered an invasive species, no limit, keep from cast net, sell them anything goes.If you can catch some big enough to clean they are very tasty. The problem is in these lakes in nc you never see them over 4 or 5 inches long, they look like gizzards flipping and gill in a net like nothing I've ever seen!I have caught some nice ones from sml. They look nothing like a small striper, one single lateral line. Some say introduced by crappie fishermen here,in nc

Yep, most likely white perch. While white bass and stripers look a lot alike, after a while of catching both, they actually look nothing alike. The Ohio river has big populations of white and hybrid striped bass, I've caught literally thousands of them over the years. SML used to have a very good population of white bass, don't see much of them anymore.
If you still think it's a white bass, just look at the tongue...... stripers have 2 tooth patches, white bass only have one....

These fish are 2-3 lbs and catching them on down lines and planers! Little bigger than what a perch gets

Post up a pic of what you're catching..... A school of perch looks more like a school of gizzards...... look for larger arches and separation among them.... unless the fish are holding on the bottom.... then just looks like a big gob of goo... still look for separation

They're probably 1yr old stripers or white perch - my guess is 1yr old stripers if they're that big.
