Many of us have the issue of having to shake or bang on our remote for it to turn on.
Anybody notice the range of the remote signal decreasing? It seems that now I have to point my remote at my TM to get it to respond. This sucks when your back is to the TM and you are fighting a fish. I have changed my remote battery and nothing improved.
So.. Before I start to take everything apart, anybody have some experience or knowledge to share?

My I-pilot remote sucked too. After a lot of back and forth with MK, they sent a replacement. It was much better, still not perfect though. I dont have an I-pilot on my new boat for a reason.
It drove me into a dock while catching bait once or twice because it stopped working!

Luckily I had enough time to make a quick decision to start my big motor and put it into reverse.

Spoke with Minnkota just now. They said to use another person's remote and see if it still has a problem. If so, they will replace the receiver and the remote under warranty. If not, then they will replace the remote.

I am considering upgrading my TM to iPilot. With all of my GoPro issues I don't want another problem. Let me know how it works out if you don't mind.

And frankly, the Minnkota customer service folks are awesome to me. It does have some issues but the value added is better than the decrease from the minor issues. Having said this, I have never used another manufacturer.

Why IPilot? Anchor lock! North heading! Speed control. I use them all everyday I'm on the water. At night, anchor lock is a must for catching bait if you plan to use your underwater lights.

BentRod, I take it that you mean why switch to ipilot and not a good reason for yam to share his results. I am currently using the co-pilot and thought that the iPilot would be easier. Mostly fish by myself(don't have any friends) and with the iPilot I thought it might be easier.

I don't personally find I pilot to be a huge upgrade over copilot.
the anchor lock didn't work very well for me. It wanders all over the place.
the cruise control is totally worthless, it keeps me at +/- 100% the speed I set it at. Just leaving it on a fixed setting usually keeps me closer to my desired speed.
In short I don't think an engineere designed a real control loop, rather I think some random software guy who didn't know what a control loop is did it without using any math. Just "go faster go faster go faster oops too fast go slowrr go slower go slower oops too slow."
I would get an Xi5 if I had it to do again since all reports seem to indicate that it's control loops work much better... considered seelling my ipilot but I'd take a bath.

I echo Brian's thoughts. I rarely used any of the Ipilot features, because they didn't really work that well. To me, it was a glorified co-pilot with a remote that was way too big.
Record a track would have been useful for walleye fishing, if it actually recorded an accurate track. Saving different tracks and anchorlock locations was a joke to me, how am I supposed to remember them?
Overall I was disappointed with my Terrova in nearly every aspect, especially for the money paid.

What Brian said - all of the features basically don't work as advertised, so you're left with essentially a copilot/autopilot TM except instead of a nice compact wrist remote, you have a big bulky remote that turns on and off as it pleases. In other words, you will spend $300-400 to upgrade to something that's really not any better than what you have now. The only way it helps is if you do not have autopilot on your current trolling motor - autopilot, when it works, is pretty nice but the older units with copilot all have that too.
