So here it is. This is was what I captured on a cloudy day in water that was a touch murky.
If only I had that SD card that is at the bottom of the lake! Sigh.... I cant wait to get back out there and optimize.
However, there are some things in this video that could stir up some discussion.
For example, I have always theorized that a striper will attack where his probability of a hit is best. This would be the side. Personally, I think stripers just engulf bait and the flappy tail seems like it would slide out the mouth giving the appearance that a striper hits the head of the bait. If I have a big mouth and I engulf a bait from the side, one end has to go down last. Just the simple physics tells me that most likey the head will go down first.
In this video, both attacks were from the side. But don't get me wrong, I do not have close enough evidence to support my theory.
Enjoy!
Oh...the next one will be an underwater wonder land....DANGIT!!!!

Spielberg should take notes. The lead up to the hookup was tense, had me on the edge of my seat!

Nice video, I can't wait to see one from the clear water at the Dam in the next month or so. BTW this last trip out we looked long and hard at the fish we caught and surmised this: As suggested on here before, I think by Mward, the stripers attack a bait and hit it simply anyway they can, with their head, their tail anything to immobilize it then they go back for the kill. We had three such big gizzard hits and the two gizzards we got back with the fish had major bruises on it's head and sides. We also looked at why the tail is always sticking out of the mouth of the fish, that's really pretty simple if you think about it--they can't swallow it tail first because of all the resistance and pain they'd receive from the dorsal and side fins of a gizzard which are very darn tough and sharp and would stick out majorly going backward. I don't think you could stuff a big gizzard down a stripers throat tail first. So even if their initial hit is sideways or whatever once they get that bait in their mouth they must move it to swallow it head first. Now that would be the video to see, blast it, subdue it, grab it sideways and turn to swallow.

Ha!!!! I love it Yam. Great job. I can't wait to see more of these. It looks to me like the squealing noise might be vibration form the drag or clicker as your striped movie star pulls line against the drag. Several times when you hear it, you see the stripers tail like he's pulling line out. Keep at it. This is great stuff.

I agree Hotdog…… pretty sure it's line related noise - either from the drag or just the vibration of the line moving through the water… sounds a lot like my spinning reels with drag sound….. But imagining it was Yam squealing with excitement anticipating the video to come I think is clearly more plausible….

I really can't wait to get a new and improved one out ASAP. Even my wife wants me to get back out there and try some things! I don't know about you, but those strange sounds kind of add a neat twist to the whole thing. I never understood why they included a sound hole that is surrounded by a bullet proof housing. Now I kind of like it! I am waiting for the time that we hear voices from underneath: "Get that shad!", "Leave me alone!". ......"Ouch!" okay...that is really weird!

Hey Gator how about an app on your phone that directs the cam and bait to selectively allow 15 lbers and above to take the bait.

I think that app already exists. Oh, and believe me, those under 15lb 'ers are worth it too. No fish on the Blackwater over 15. Right?

I have watched well over 20 strikes today and not one of them was from the front. Most of them were from the side and a few were tail first. In one action scene, the striper comes up from behind with his mouth open and eventually has everything but the head in his mouth... but then he just lets it go. Either this is what happens when they are not feeding aggressively or they spin the fish in their mouth. Stand by on that.... Here is an interesting shot of the shad surfacing with a nice fat fish below. I have so much cool stuff I just want to delete it all so I can stop looking! I think clear water will be the death of me!
