Water temp: 48 Bait : Alwives Techniques : Down-rods with 2oz egg sinkers Time: 9:00am until 10:00pm Place: Mid-lake on Roanoke arm just up lake from Captain Quarters Fish- Boated 8 (Most were small and two were in the slot) My boy and I started off near Captain Quarters. We headed up lake in search mode. It was not long before we marked two fish at 50'. So I got the TM in the water and put out some Downrods. After a few mintues the downs started going down. We boated 6 real fast and then hooked into two more and ended up boating 8 in no time.. It seem that most of the fish were caught at around 50'. There is fish around: Double:

Sweet. Nothing better than kids catching fish. I have relatives in and they are fired up about going in the morning, rain or shine.

We just fished for an hour. I got really lucky to get into the fish that fast. After that my boy and I headed up to Beaver dam to try and target big bait just for the fun of it, as we were done fishing. (I know very strange) HA HA.. That was much harder. I caught zero big gizzards.. I ended up heading to the back of the creek and netting a pile of J. Gizzards, just so my boy knew the sonar did work.. I think that yam guy has me doing some weird stuff out there on the water.
BTW- I have a like new 8' 3/8 mesh cracker for sale.. I am going to try buy a 8' (5/8 or maybe 3/4 mesh) net....

I have purchased a 10 foot 1 inch tim wade 1.5lbs -- I pleased to say it does a wonderful job on the big Gizz -- I will only use it in depths where the Big Gizz are hanging from 15 feet and below and will try to make sure it never hits the bottom ( per Tim's advice) -- If that is truly what you are targeting it will sink faster than the 3/4 and will catch the exact same gizz you would target with the 3/4.

try to make sure it never hits the bottom ( per Tim's advice) Why does Tim say not to let the net go all the way to the bottom?

try to make sure it never hits the bottom ( per Tim's advice) Why does Tim say not to let the net go all the way to the bottom? First, this net is made out of lighter material to increase the sink rate of the mesh to keep it open longer.. thus it doesn't pull up trees like his regular net. Second, it is made to throw in deep water where the bait is suspended between 20 and 35 feet. If the bait is in shallow water, you can get them and the trees with his tougher nets.

When you get into the 1 inch and above, he said most of those nets are used in deeper situations and it truly should never touch the bottom -- The line he uses to make the net are lighter and will tear easier (like most brands) if snagged up -- When you buy a 3/4 or below, you have the option of the heavy duty line that can pull up crappie trees with concrete blocks and have little to no damage or you may purchase the lighter line net, this net may open a little easier but cannot take the punishment. When you purchase a net from him, he will run you through all the options of your CUSTOM net. (and there are many options) I have a TIM WADE 1/2 -- 3/4 and now the 1 inch which I was lucky enough to win through the forum for the November fish contest. (all 10 foot and 1.5lbs)

We really need to get all our nets together and do some downscan tests measuring drop rate and openness at various depths. Maybe we could share the data with Tim and get a 2% off coupon.

I pulled this up with my Joyfish tonight. Pulled good on the brail lines but after a few throws it was back to normal. This "crappie tree" has been relocated to 100' of water. You should see what we pulled up today with Tyler's Cracker..... Think he has a pic. I'm close to deciding to get a Wade net like yours Livebaitjunkee - but even with not letting it hit the bottom there is just so much unknown in the SML waters.....

I already have been using it in 20 feet of water when the gizz are there and I have to be honest, it has hit the bottom of few times. the 1 inch is sweet opens awesome and is so light compared to my 3/4 wade. The best part is it catches the same as the 3.4 and you do not get any young shad gilled up if they are around. a matter a fact, I have never seen anything gilled in my 1 inch since I have used it ----- I ask Tim if I should of do 1.6lbs or .7 for the 1 inch and he said it would probably just make it close faster, The master said NO NEED.
Go for it Mward -- I think you will truly find value in it all the way around.

The nets have cost anywhere between $180 and $200 and that includes shipping. the cost of lead is the variable these days it seems like. going up up up.. Bent -- I think that is a great idea about the 12 footer -- As easily as my 10 foot 1 inch is opening for me -- the 12 foot is probably the next one on the list.
