So.. If you ever want to play guide for Bentrod and Mward... You might reconsider. The striper gods gave me a 24 hour penalty for wanting to show them what I have been learning as their boats are down. And what I taught them was that I suck as a guide.
Yesterday I was reeling in a hog before I secured my first planer. I then caught 3 more. With this happening I thought it would be nice to share the love. And as soon as I fished Bentrod out of his hole yesterday up to the point that Mward left my boat this morning, my boat was doing nothing but missing the few hits we did get or retying leaders that broke. Mward did manage a 10 pounder but that was it for the two of them on separate outings.
But... They gave me some ideas that I implemented as soon as Mward left today. And this afternoon was a complete success. Was I a pro? Nope.. Multiple board tangles, planers hanging from limbs, I fell, my net took a dump, I broke multiple things... But... I caught fish from 10 to 16 pounds and added a 5 pound smallie to the talley. I swear... The stupider I get on the water, the more fish I catch. One hog smoked a slack shad on a twisted planer as I was pulling another planer off a tree. And it's all recorded!
There is nothing like being occupied with something as a tekota reel screams at you in agony. For that brief moment, my heart must reach 300 bpm!
Fishing is good my friends. Get out there and catch you some memories.

Terrible guide....
Nah, we both just hit that front wrong time wise - you hit the ends of it and we came in the middle when the fish said thanks but no thanks. I did see stripes though - they count if you get them in a cast net in water deeper than 20ft.
Appreciate the ride though - it was fun either way! You have a serious disorder but don't worry it'll get a little better in time - well not really but keep telling your wife that.

Was I a pro? Nope.. Multiple board tangles, planers hanging from limbs, I fell, my net took a dump, I broke multiple things... If you don't tangle some planers from time to time you are not fishing enough boards... if you don't hang them in trees you are fishing too deep, and if you don't break something occasionally you are not fishing hard enough Crazy story..... and it is one that is hard to believe - but the Shad Taxi saw part of this so I'm not making it up..... So today Tyler and I are pulling a bank that we had suggested Yam to pull yesterday. I notice what looks like a fish floundering near a blow-down, and we edge on over and sure enough there is a fish belly up, flopping around. We go to net it to check the length and see if we can get it revived when it swims down into the blow down - but it comes back up again. Then we realize it has a treble hook in its mouth, attached to a main hook, and line tangled somewhere in the tree I guess. Finally manage to net the fish - sort of - the tangle keeps it from coming up easily - but the main line breaks from the hook and due to the net being sort of tangled the treble catches in the net or something and breaks off with the fish - and the fish swims off at a pretty good clip. The main hook is caught in the net - along with a length of leader material that went to the stinger. I get to looking at it and it seems VERY familiar - like a circle hook that I choked a fish on yesterday when I set the hook forgetting that Yam had circles and not regular hooks on his boards.... and the leader was the same 20 lb test / Yozuri leader - and the knot connecting the leader to the hook was a palomar - which Yam informed me he used to tie on his stingers..... Could it really be? Best we can figure is that when he hung the board and broke off the leader/hook/stinger that it caught in that blow-down with the bait still attached - and then sometime between yesterday and this morning an unsuspecting striper swam along and saw this poor bait that could not run and thought he had an easy meal - only to find himself "stung" and tethered to that tree..... Crazy, but it happened.... spend enough time on the water and I guess you'll see it all. Oh, Yam - Tyler has your circle hook if you want it back...

Pretty sure not too many folks are using Daiichi circle chunk light size 5/0, a Palomar and yozuri pink. And if it's 20 pound, then it did happen yesterday.
It's very strange and lucky but also serves to show how harsh we are on our environment. Perhaps we should go back and retrieve our hooks from the trees?
