Went out this morning at Hardy ramp. Got some bait, probably too much, all small threadfins. Started out just off the shoals in about 15 ft of water, I was using some redi rig planers floats. As I was letting out the first line one grabbed it before I had let all the line out. It was about 25", so after I got rigged up again with bait I was freespooling the line behind me and had another hookup. Got that fish in and it was my best for sml, it was a nice 30" fish. So after these two and a couple of pull downs I headed down to the tressell, that was a mistake. Got nothing down there. Headed back up to the shoals and immediately had another fish on. I ended up fish another hour there before I had to leave and caught 3 more. All the fish were around 25-27" except the one 30" fish. No pictures as I left my camera at home. I was running two free lines off the planer floats and 2 down lines at around 8-12 feet. It was a pretty good day. Did have one idiot in a bass boat come around the bend there at the shoals and gunned it and ran full speed right by me maybe 30 ft away. I do want to say thanks to whoever was in the seapro, thanks for slowing down as you came by me twice, looks like the striper fisherman have respect.

Awesome report. I am sorry that a bass boat did not respect your space. It seems those guys are really focused on catching bass and are so caught up in their own chase that courtesy is lost. Maybe they hate our planer boards? Not sure but no doubt, striper fishermen seem more courteous. Are bass guys courteous to bass guys? I know I attempt to be courteous to all boats. Keyword attempt.

Sounds like you had a great day. I know how you feel about inconsiderate #$# holes. I was below tressell on Monday and had a bass boat go between me and bank with planer boards out to side towards bank. He didn't even wave when I gave him the one finger salute. He missed my outside board by about 10 feet. Most striper fishermen will slow down as they pass in the upper end of river where it starts to narrow down.

It by no means ruined my day, it was actually a beautiful day. With the fog on the water and the water was very calm.

I will say up there where it is narrow it is best to slow down. But the problem is most of the people that slow down for you only do it at half throttle which throws twice the wake. I personally would prefer they just blast on by me. Less wake no hassles. Getting near my lines is a no no.

Agree striperjohn. I either swing real wide of others fishing and don't slow down or come to almost a complete stop and putter by in the narrow sections or when multiple boats in one area. Others may feel different but I can't imagine the few minutes to putter by others will make a difference in whether I catch one more fish or not. Also, puttering by gives you a chance to talk to others on the lake.

Last year I was at trussel area and had bass boat come to our inside wide a** open cut my line on a bucktail he was a lil close not like I was working a top water plug or anything but my 9 yr old was with me so just explained what I think would be the right thing to do in that situation and that's slow down and respect all boaters it's pretty narrow right there when there was already prob 4 other boats already there

I have caught 14 so far this year in 3 outings off the kayak. Those redi rig planers have been the trick for me.

Actually it's a Sea _ro. Glad you hooked into some. Always try to not swamp the yaks!

I think most of us fish out of relatively stable kayaks, where boat wakes are not much more than a short nuisance. I think slowing down actually makes the wakes larger in most cases, so I'm not offended when someone passes me on plane at a reasonable difference. However, we can certainly be swamped when being passed too closely, and we are never sure if we have not been seen and are about to be run over. So if circumstances do not allow for you to pass at a safe distance, please slow down significantly, it will only delay you a couple of minutes. Of course passing within planers or float lines is not acceptable for anyone; kayak, jet ski, boat or barge.
