Wow, either you guys are catching up on your honey-do lists or things are so good you are afraid to report it on a public forum.
Headed out this afternoon, hope to see a few of you out there.

He's not gone, he's just going through a bout of senior depression. Many of his old friends have shuffled off to the old folk's facebook and he's feeling lonely and alienated because all of the young fishermen just nod and smile when he rambles on about the good old days.

I was watching my Wolfpack whip up on the Demon Deacons - but got out there today - report will be coming - pretty quiet out there as far as others go. My guess is opening of rifle season has a lot of folks here in the woods.

Oh dear lord!!!!! so much for fading away peacefully!!!!!!! Yep, fished saturday and sunday morning...... did awesome on size and numbers.... and the 2 things I loved the most, 1. I didn't have to throw my back out trying to catch mongos....every single one of them was caught on peanuts.... ( mward and BentRod ) 2. I fished all day saturday and sunday morning and never saw the first boat... Ha!!!!! Brian, as soon as these senior bones recover, I'll post up a report. I may do it on facebook just for spite... and since I haven't friended any of you....Ha!!!!

Every single one caught on peanuts? Blasphemy. Not possible Real men fish with Mongos - or insane men - haven't figured out which....... This one from today was a little on the small size for us...... If we had some ales this morning and again this afternoon at one point I think we might have had a few more fish in the boat - but our big bait did us Ok too - I'll take one fish blowing up a big bait on a planer board over 10 slurping up a peanut on a downline... (At least I'll claim that for as long as we catch down good fish on the big bait ) As to Facebook - we try to make this place Facebook'er friendly - I mean why do you think we post up all those pics of our food when talking a break from fishing

They both work but I would rather use a Mongo!

Wow. What the hell did I start with this thread?? Yam, that was an interesting analogy. Let's see here . . . Mongos are traditional um, pleasure, Peanuts are toys . . . .If I follow that logic through to fly fishing, we're talking about some really weird behavior. . . .

Bigun - we're just compensating.... that's all No worries mward, I used to be just like you guys.....I wanted to catch the biggest of whatever species I was after, no matter what body of water or where it was at. But with age comes wisdom and with wisdom comes reflection and I have come to realize it wasn't the thrill of the big fish after all...it's about just getting out and going fishing.....

Very well said bigun. To me the preparation, anticipation, challenge, and smell of fish is all I need Sent from my XT1080 using proboards

Well, heck, look at you two - perfect candidates to take up fly fishing. You get ALL THAT and you don't even have to smell like fish when you get home.

So basically what you are saying is that as you get older and your bait starts to get smaller and less "mongoish" you begin to learn how to rationalize and accept your new reality and claim wisdom as the driver. Makes total sense to me.

Bigun...those may be the most wise words ever posted on this site. All the talk of net throwing till your arms ache and back spasms, Mongo's over peanuts, alewives on downlines as second class citizens...has me seriously confused. If I put bait in my tank big enough to live after i use my stupidly oversized hooks because I'm too lazy to change them after my overly optimistic rigging the night before...I'm a happy man. There's no question....I don't catch enough fish given all my effort and expense.....but I never have a bad day on the water. Even when a skunk climbs on board.
A day on the lake is a God given gift, not to be spoiled by bait disappointment. Thats the thinking of an older man. The only thing i would change about your comment is a swap of events...with age comes reflection...with reflection comes wisdom....
Give me peanuts, give me a few cold ones, give me a windless day. I'm happy.
