A Friday that just needed some fishing. A little after lunch I decided to brave the wind and head out. The main channel was white-capping pretty good and it made looking for big shad almost impossible. I slipped into a few coves/creeks and the shad were there. Got about 15 shad (various sizes) and still had to battle the wind. For good measure, picked up some peanuts just in case I needed some downline bait. Shared some bait with Mward and kept enough shad to fish with.
Techniques - big shad on boards (one board each side) with about 20 ft of line from the board. 2 downlines with 2oz weights (20-30 ft down), 2 downlines with 3/4oz weights (30-50 ft line out).
Water temp and conditions - 58 where I fished, clear (4 ft vis) with lots of leaves
Air temp - 50 degrees with NW winds 15-20 diminishing to 10 or less
Looked for areas that I could get a little protection from the wind and found a few fish that didn't want to cooperate early on. But finally around 3:45 the wind decided to diminish a little and the bite picked up. The 3/4oz downlines outproduced the 2oz downlines today. I boated 3 fish (no big fish) and had one decent one rip off about 30 ft of drag and then just came unhooked.
All things considered I felt like I accomplished something today.....found and captured bait on a terribly windy day, managed to catch fish under challenging conditions, only spent 3 hours on the water. Back in town to eat dinner with my best gal and my little man Clayton!

Good to see you Chad and thanks for the bait hook-up. Finally found some more to be buddies with those and we'll see what they will do this morning with less wind...

Those are great accomplishments. Tough days separate the fishermen from the fisherboys.
