Not windy this a.m., you might just have some decent wx? Uhhhh - check that again . Mother Nature gave us a few hours before the wind started. Of course the power outage on the Franklin side ate up most of that non-windy time for me

I was just talking with StripedYam tonight about how sometimes catching bait is more satisfying and an accomplishment than actually catching a fish Good luck in the AM - looks like it's going to be a cold start - I'm going to wuss out tomorrow AM and leave it to the die-hards

I am thinking that everything up to actually catching the fish is better than catching the fish. Bait is the most fun followed closely by trying out and learning new stuff and tinkering with equipment. Jeeeez...just yesterday I remember being somewhat upset by the fact that the fish wouldn't let me get my spread deployed. And I know for certain that fishing would get boring if it were always easy. But... I certainly wouldn't do all the other stuff if there were no stripers to catch.

I just have to comment on this lovefest for catching bait. I think over the years I have spent about 3-4 months of my life throwing a castnet. There have been times when I would have paid 30 or 40 dollars or more for a couple dozen alewives and more for gizzards. You know on those days when you have made 40-50 throws and your arms and shoulders are screaming? I love the "one and done" days myself.;D Sent from my SCH-R760 using proboards

I just came back from a saltwater trip... We were there to chase false albacore, but the backup plan was to try for kingfish if the false albacore were not there. The first day we were running out the sound and spotted some menhaden flipping on top. I dug my net out and told my buddy to point the boat at the flips. Loaded the net, threw a pancake (without using my teeth!), dumped about 20 menhaden in the livewell and put the net away. We chased false albacore all day, and didn't use the bait, but throwing a pancake on those pogies made my day!

Brian, great to have you back but I dreamed of some awesome stories. Not this time I guess. Well that will make the next one better. I guess the fastest fish in the ocean won this time.
To the rest of you old farts.... I hope your one and done excitement only applies to your net throwing. Personally I enjoy things that take some time, work, effort, strategy, knowledge, athleticism, skill, technique and certainly things that are not easy. I can't even imagine how disappointed I would be if Bentrod just gave me 40 mongos some morning. I would just go home and fix something.

Chad, that's major funny! I had a buddy with me once that threw a small 6 foot net at a blip and caught the mother load of gizzards, while I'm busting my butt to no avail with the 10 footer. We hooped and hollered like kids lol. Yam, sometimes catching bait using electronics is good, but even the best with all your aforementioned attributes have those bad days. I recall watching Todd in the back of and upriver creek throwing that big 12 foot net, time after time after time and getting nothing. He came by us sweating and laughing and said "the bait Gods are pissed today". I wish I could throw my ten foot with one full pancake like that guy. Cheers
