Bait - Met Stripedyam today while looking for bait. Nice guy. Found plenty of Peanuts although things were pretty deep. I was throwing a 1/2 inch net and was getting from zero to just a couple each throw. I did finally find a bait ball less than 10 feet below the surface that got me a couple of dozen so I called it good and started fishing.
Water temperature - 69 degrees
Weather - Overcast skies with temperature in the mid-60s
Techniques - Downlines, Light lines, planers
I found some fish while in the creek looking for bait so I scouted around, they were still there but I could not find any takers. Yam had given me a tip from the morning so I thought I would give it a look. While heading up river I spotted something in the water. I went to take and to fish it out. What I thought was a piece of wood ended up being a deer. I got pretty close to him and he began to swim towards the boat. I just sat idling and the deer actually brushed against the side of my boat, turned around in the middle of the channel and headed back to the bank where he started. I have heard of deer crossing the lake but I have never seen it before.
I didn't move more than 100 yards from where I saw the deer and sure enough Yam's tip was pretty helpful. I started baiting lines and the action began almost as soon as the first line hit 20 feet. I ended up catching four fish over a period of about 15-20 minutes. Three were 24-26 inches and one was between 38-39 inches. My measuring device is only 36 inches. I left the scales at home so I do not know what anything weighed. The larger fish was pretty thin but nice nonetheless. I caught these fish at a depth 20-25 feet in about 40 feet of water. Battery was almost gone and I did not take pictures of the fish.
I ended up fishing until dark but found very few additional opportunities. Fish were scattered and in small schools.
