I have bass fished all my life and just bought a boat. My family and I would like to start stripper fishing but don't know where to start. Seems most people use live bait but I only have jigs bucktails and lures. Looking for some advice on where and how to go about fishing for strippers. Any info would be good. Thanks Jason

Ahhh, strippers. You sure your wife is down with that?? Hahahaha. Now stripers, thats a different story!! There is tons of great info on the forum if you check the equipment section, that is a good start. Biggest question: Live bait or not?? If you are going to fish live bait go ahead and get a loan right now. No but seriously, cast nets, bait tanks, rod holders, planer boards, chemicals, boat big enough for a 30 gallon tank, waking up wee hours of the morning to catch bait, yada yada, is all part of the game. Or you can start studying what the graph looks like when stripers are on it, and start with jigging spoons, bucktails, etc. That's what I would do, personally. Make sure you like the species and want to get all involved with it before you jump in balls deep. Look at the stripers on sonar section and it will give you a good idea on what to look for on the graph.Once you start hooking stripers you can maybe meet some buddies on the lake and try out the live bait scene. Some guys love it (I know I do) and some guys just think it is too high maintenance. You have to try it before you make a decision, IMO. They are a great species, and good luck on your journey. It has been a long one for me and honestly, it is about 78% of what I think about every day.

I'll second everything Sutor's said..... a ton of good info that will give you a serious jump-start which is shared by folks that did a combination of spending a lot of time time figuring it out, learned a lot from others, etc. Return the thanks by participating, sharing results on your trips, what worked and did not work for you, etc.... will keep it going for everyone. Also, a trip with one of the good guides on the lake can be invaluable as well.

Thanks guys. That's good advice to study what stripers look like on the fish finder. I will give it a try and see how it goes. I put my boat in at the state park where should I start looking, s curves or towards the bridge? Thanks
