Let me start by saying I wasn't going to post this. Got to the Penhook ramp around 5:30 p.m. on Friday to launch. Backed the boat in the water, jumped in the boat, fired her up, and I forgot to unhook the winch strap. Usually I unhook her before I back into the water. But this time I forgot to and went to the bow of the boat and reached down to relieve the tension with my left hand while releasing the gear with my right hand. Not a good idea. I came head over heals into the water and it freaking hurt. Wrenched my left shoulder and cut my hand pretty good on something too. Stitched my hand up when I got home and going to see the Doc for my shoulder today. Didn't let it stop me from fishing though. Figured heck only thing worst would be a skunk in the boat. Right? Nahhh, I lost a 200.00 hat too. Yeah I am that guy fishing with a cowboy hat. I did manage two fish on jigs and headed to the house for treatment. Oh forgot to mention that the folks that watched my "dismount" said it was a solid 10.

Ouch - that's dedication there - glad you didn't do more damage - hope the doc does not find something major with the shoulder.

It happens to everyone sooner or later. Friday night Saw a guy pull in to the dock for slick drop off of his buddy onto the dock. Timing is everything you know but this guy jumped about 8 feet too soon. Upper torso hit the dock and rest of him was in the water. Then all of him was in. I thought he was unconscious so I ran over trying to wipe the smile off my face and show concern but he climbed up safely.
Hope the shoulder is OK. Went through the old man rotator cuff injury myself and managed to fish through it.

Heck, I'm liking..... "stitched my hand up when I got home" cowboys are some tough dudes. hope the shoulder isn't to bad..... bad thing is, once you hurt them, seems like you always have trouble out of it..... you may have yo give up bull riding and just striper fish more.

Bigun, I quit riding years ago because of my shoulder.

Glad your ok. I believe we all have had slips at the ramp. I still have scar on my back... but I would say the worst part of that is you actually spent $200 on a hat

Glad you're OK! I've had my blonde moments on the dock too. Bad thing is when there are a lot of witnesses... especially your wife. Mine never forgets those moments, but can't seem to remember little things like drain plugs, keys or tying the rope to the dock. Its embarrassing walking back from parking the car and seeing your wife standing on the dock watching your boat floating out with the tide because the rope "slipped". Then even worse having to swim out to your boat... Not that, ah.. that has ever happened to me....

Want to laugh your azz off? Just go to any public boat ramp in a metropolitan area around 4 pm on any holiday in the summer. You will see things that will simply amaze you. People backing their vehicles into the water, fistfights, arguments, explosions, people falling into and out of boats, boats run up on land, into each other, into the back of trucks, sinking boats, beligerent drunks, topless women, and just about anything else. I tell you its better than Barnum and Bailey could have ever dreamed. I have seen all this and more at these really big ramps in Miami with 12 docks where you can be amused for hours. They should charge admission for spectators.

I use to stop by the Santa Barbara harbor every Sunday to check out the action. The ramp there is very steep and when the tide is out, there is moss on the ramp so you may not get out without a tow or you can't brake when backing in so the vehicle ends up in the water.

Update:
MRI says I have another tear in the rotator cuff. Not a complete tear this time but one that looks like it will require yet another(this would be my 5th) shoulder surgery. Sent the results to a specialist in NY to get his opinion. On a good note: Doc did say my sutures looked good. Doesn't know the wife is a Doc too.
