In this heat i catch bait in the mornings and either use or dump it when I'm done. Today I netted a big gizzard, which bother all the alewives in the trash can, I think. If I put them on a board, they swim over to the boat a tangle the other lines any time I stop rowiwng, so it had to go on a 2 oz. downline. About 45 minutes in a 23" fish grabbed the ale on a 1/4 oz weight. A half hour later the rod with the big gizzard started losing line. It pulled me around some, and spent a while swimming under the boat. 33", 13 lb. It had this hole in its gill plate (is that what it is called?). It was all healed up and didnt seem to have affected the fish. At first I thought it might have been from a stringer, then I thought maybe a foul hook long ago. Could have been anything. I was a little ways from the dock and don't own a cooler that big, so I dumped the bait, put the trash can and rods in the boat, set ice and a life jacket over the fish and rowed home fast. Back about 7:30.

nice report..... the bite was a later morning bite today it seemed - wish the fish would have told us - we all could have gotten a little more sleep Though looking back at your "back at 7:30", it seems you were back to the dock about the time we saw our 1st fish.... you probably got a good nap

No nap for me. I work 6 days/week in summer.
