I have been very busy and then got hit by an awful sinus infection. This is just to prove that things change in just a few days on SML. On Sat. 7/12/14, I headed out by myself on the lower lake area heading to where I had been told of some schooling fish. I had a few swirls, but had no hits on jigs. I set up planer boards and caught a 20" within 5 min. Within 30 minutes, I caught (2) fish 26" I decided to keep these. They were pretty stressed as I unhooked them. I wanted to come across a point I had some luck on before but before I got there the outside planer popped loose and the reel started stripping line. I knew this was a good fish. After several exciting runs, he came to the top and I eased him to the boat. He was 32" and I kept him in the net, working with him. After a few minutes, he swam off on his own back deep. I was afraid that I was going to catch something else so I was done by 8:00am.
On the following Sat. 7/19/14 I had a friend of mine that wanted to catch a striper. I had gone out the evening before with the missus and marked a school of fish on a point hoping they would hang around. Wishful thinking. I fished the exact same area and marked few fish and got not even a tug on a bait except for a 2 lb catfish. I decided to head around Chrismas tree island and still had no luck. I was using down lines, deep and shallow planers. I did see some guide boats up Bull Run, but they were moving around a lot. This makes fishing a lot of love/little hate sport. The only good thing was that I did not have to clean any fish. I won't be able to come up for a couple of weeks. I am heading down this weekend to Gatlinburg for a long anniversary weekend with my lovely wife of 37 years. Now, that's a catch! Save some me guys
