Weather: Cloudy 45-60deg Water: 52-59deg Technique: Shad on boards Hit the lake about 8:30 with Nathan n Ethan. Went to try for a few shad first thing then bounced down one creek below about 9am. Hadn't fished there all spring, but it looked quiet and quiet equals fish when they're shallow. Just find an obscure shallow area with bait and you'll find a few fish right now. Anyways, as soon as we got three boards out and they came tight, I noticed the middle bait shaking real hard, and then the outside board got slammed. I set the hook and it didn't scream drag off fast but I felt some serious weight and a slow pull. Told Ethan to get up there and hold on tight because it was a goodun. He fought it for about 5min and did a great job getting it in. It went 38" and 21lbs, which was his biggest. He's caught a few 36"ers and some upper teens but he finally broke 20lbs! He nailed another teen later on too! Lil E told me to blur his spot cause he doesn't care what anybody thinks Father n Son EDIT: Almost forgot..it was a double tagged fish that Mward tagged in Marxh of 2011 at 34.5", so catch n release works! Gotta thank Mward for making a kids day and creating a memory he will have forever! Wouldn't have happened if Mward hadn't have released it. It's still swimming by the way! Here it is where Mwurd caught it..check out the same lines from E's first picture above...same fish! Here it is going back..somebody go catch it in 3 more years..

Knowing one of my released fish was later caught by a buddy's son and it was his first citation ranks well up in the top 5 cool things of my time fishing SML and it totally made my day when I got the details via text and looked up the tag info and figured out it was one I caught and tagged a little over three years ago. I just hope this my son, Matt, can catch her again in 3-5 years This is exactly the reason we preach Catch & Release and we work to release the big ones - no better proof point than today!
