Bait was easy in 2 feet of water. My high speed pickups earned their keep because I stupidly dumped a load of mud and shad in my front live well It cleared right up after running to my fishing spot
Fished from about 1pm to 5pm and put 4 in the boat ranging from a 20" dink to a healthy 31". 2 on small ales and 2 on 8"-10" shad. The big fish was on an ale and the dink was on a gizzard I fished all free lines behind planers corks or nothing.
We had at least 10 chased baits complete with shad acrobatics, lots of splashing, and a few pulldowns that just resulted in a mangled/bloody tail but no hookup. I kept saying I was going to add stingers and then kept deciding it was too much trouble. No big deal though since I enjoy watching the shad get chased probably more than actually reeling in a fish
I also had a weird failure on a Diawa Accudepth that probably resulted in a failed hookup... A fish nailed the bait very aggressively and the rod loaded up, then bounced loose like the line broke, but the clicker kept going. The drag was totally freewheeling... I thought it had popped out of gear and took a while to figure out what happened... The drag now has 2 settings, totally free, or locked solid. I only have 2 of these Diawas and never really liked them but until now they always worked fine despite just feeling cheap.
Edit: like everyone else, was checked by The Man. Funny how I rarely get checked when the weather is nasty. He just wanted to see life jackets, throw cushion, fire extinguisher and license/registration. I had everything ready so got it over quick and back to fishing.
