I have been getting a number of Pm's and emails regarding where and how to fish the lake. First off, read the dang reports and if pictures are posted look at where they are, it's not that difficult. One report shows a big mountain in the background, is it that hard to figure out where they were fishing? Really? Right now dragging just about any sized bait will catch fish from the State Park S turns south. Seriously, I marked schools last week as big as any I've ever seen on the lake in that past 10 years. Bait, go into any cove right now and it's there. We caught fish on small alewives, medium alewives, large alewives, bluebacks, gizzards, and topwater plugs. Now the fish are skittish as they always are after the spawn, so get your floats a little further behind the boat about twice normal as well as your planers. Lightlining off planers and lightlined freelines worked best-no weight whatsoever. We caught a bunch of fish off floats with 3.8 weights on them at 12-14 feet as well. We were dragging in 120 feet of water at times, free lined planers with 24 feet behind the boat and about 1.2 mph-that puts the bait at around 4-5 feet-and we got strikes routinely. Didn't mark any fish on the Lowrance during that time either. From now until the water temps hit and stay above 80 you should have a great deal of success. One last tidbit, I never go near the dam this time of year, it's way too crowded for me. Oh and PM Gator for Blackwater info.

A bunch moved above the state park last evening. We saw them busting huge gizzards in the back of a major creek between the bridge and park, right at dusk.
We were fishing cutbait on a main point in that creek and had all of our rods go off numerous times in about 20 minutes. They were hungry!!!!!
Every type of fish in the lake has the feedbag on right now, and will for the next 6-8 weeks. If you can't catch them now....

It doesn't matter where they were, the schools are moving so fast they are not staying anywhere long.

Yes we will, won't be long now. If you remember, Memorial weekend last year, you and mward were coming out of Blackwater and saw me coming back from a trip, may go there and catch some this weekend until they are in our yard.

Dang it men! All you have talked me into fishing tomorrow. Reading this forum is so addictive. It's like the coach pumping you up for the big game. I just can't stand it, got to go fishing now!

I've never thrown a net around a dock light. So finding a good light and not loosen my net will be the real challenge for me.

Drive across it first and you should be able to mark any obvious hazards in the water. The bait will leave and return before you can turn the boat around.
